Drain Valve In Intercooler?

I’m adding a water/meth system to my ‘91 ProCharged Corvette. The injectors will be in the tubes going to the throttle body and about 5” in front of it. Will un-injected water mist in the tubes drain back down into the intercoolers and puddle there. If so, would a radiator-type drain valve in the housing make sense. I really have no idea how much of a problem “drain back” might cause, if any.

You're at a good distance from the throttle body to help full atomization, and so long as you do a check on air fuel ratio when running it so it's not overly rich you ought to be okay.

Having said that, I'd prefer drain with a check valve over not having one, for instance in case the injector was stuck open.

Unless you have a malfunction of the system I do not see how that could happen.

seems like a non-issue; as any fluid in the inter-cooler would evaporate quickly??

Thanks, guys! It was hard for me to believe that all the injected vapor would not cause a condensation problem in the intercoolers under some ambient conditions.

Now, one other question. I have the correct size parts to run a dual squirter setup. Originally, I thought I’ld put one squirter in each input tube to the throttle body. But, I have since read that one of them could be placed before the inlet to the D1 to cool the incoming ambient air. What’s your feeling about either alternative?

I am so glad I found this site. You guys really know your stuff. Thanks for all the insight!

i tend to suggest that it only be used after the supercharger and the inter-cooler.

Yes. If the system is not set up correctly, it will pool up. I had a malfunctioning controller that dumped most of a liter into my TMIC outlet.

Fix - Good parts setup correctly

Inject when in boost and the car is warm. There will be enough heat and airflow to move it into the engine

Injecting pre-blower is a great way to remove heat. It is also a great way to do damage to the SC impeller fins. The trains of thought on this are, if the pipe before the impeller is straight, inject as far away from the SC as possible. If not straight, inject as close to the impeller nut as possible.

You could also look into volute injection, which means injecting into the blower housing, after the impeller. The risk of damaging the impeller is gone, and you are still injecting into the heat source.
