    it was a beautiful day on sat 3/20/2021
    drove 12miles to the track and got 3-runs in,
    then on the drive back it started really whining and almost stalled the engine at 40mph.
    bad = it did not show any oil on the dipstick about 8miles from the house.
    i was thinking i had crashed the impeller into the housing but it seems to still be tight.
    and i didn't have the wrench needed to loosen the blower belt so i cut it off
    the blower still turns but feels rough and noisy.:arghh:

    in april2021 i was looking for a repair shop:blackalien:

    7-16-2021 i finally sent the blower off for repairs,
    seals - bearings - and a new billet impeller with a couple more fins to pump the boost more down low:blackalien:
    i'm going to have it repaired by www.superchargerrebuild.com based on another members experience..

    7-31-2021 update on the hurt blower; this is ugly:arghh:
    seems that more than the bearings were injured;
    The F1R impeller shaft gear, and oil slinger gear, are also damaged.
    it's only another $425 added to the bill...
    good thing is it will be better than new:blackalien:

    today i got notification that the unit is on its way back to me :cool:
    i did go with the new billet impeller for more airflow
    time to get moving on the exhaust upgrade also...

    worked on getting the old 2.5'' flowmaster exhaust off the car today.
    this is a comparison of the new 3.0''header collector with the old 2.5'' inside it.
    each of the larger 3.0''pipes can flow 700cfm:D
    where the 2.5'' maxes out at close to 500cfm

    i also was shopping for one of the gates rpm belts to try
    rock auto ended up being the hands down pricing winner and got my order:blackalien:

    And the 3 inch sounds better.

    update: 8-27-2021
    got my repaired/rebuilt F1-R Procharger blower back
    it has a new billet impeller, it looks to have the same number of fins,
    but angled & positioned differently.

    this is the original upload_2021-8-27_9-58-12.png #ad

    this is the new impeller;
    it appears to be more aggressive:vamp:

    update 9-13-2021
    been gathering parts to do several updates to car while its down;
    new RPM belt to try and a new box of blower oil:wideyed:
    upload_2021-9-13_8-50-15.jpeg #ad

    got the O2 bung welded to the collector for the data logging system install also:blackalien:
    upload_2021-9-13_8-52-10.jpeg #ad

    compare the size of the old tailpipe to the new 3'' unito_O
    upload_2021-9-13_8-53-54.jpeg #ad

    i've installed this shock tower brace now that i could
    as the old tailpipes w/n allow the install
    it was difficult to get it into place and then install the mounting bolts from the top:wtf:

    so i've been slowly fighting with the new exhaust system install.
    could not get the tail-pipes to fit with-out hanging down about 5'' from the bottom of rear bumper;
    so they were removed for now.
    then attempting to hang the mufflers an equal distance from the driveshaft and suspension parts,
    needed a few slice and dice modifications, but got it done.
    now to install the turn down tips in the mufflers is fighting me.
    extreme difficulty getting the muffler outlet to secure to the pipe:wtf:
    ordered some more band clamps and they arrived yesterday.

    11-17-2021 update;
    finished up the exhaust with out the tailpipes
    has slash turn downs just in front of the axle.
    started the car without blower belt installed just to hear the engine an exhaust without blower noise.
    engine sounds quite different, deeper and throatier
    i let it warm up, then removed the jackstands under rear of unit.
    i recheck the oil level in the blower and installed the new rpm belt
    it went on without having to remove the crank pulley:cool:
    i then let the front down off the jackstands.
    had to call it a good night.
    now moving onto the boost timing master and the data logging instrumentation:blackalien:

    The Vortech YSI only comes in a fed by engine oil flavor. These power adders like to seep at seals and push fluid out of vent holes at higher RPM's. Can you convert that thing to oil fed from your engine?

    For the red 2011 G/S with the YSI we also have a DeWitts radiator with EOC(engine oil cooler) on the hot tank side of the radiator and TOC(trans oil cooler) on the cool tank side. This setup does a great job at keeping all the fluids at a like temperature and allows us to control the temps of the oil within the power adder.

    You just have to cap the dipstick, replace the vent with a feed line and replace the drain plug with a return line back to the oil pan. Or in my mind it is that simple, anyways. I m sure the guys at Procharger might point out something I am missing in that thought.

    Anyways how much boost are you hoping to see out of that power adder now?

    some of the older models and a couple of the current models still are running pressurized engine oil.
    one of the reasons i got this model was that it was self contained.
    i don't recall checking the oil in the blower for a long time, [maybe several years:oops: ]
    but i will keep a better eye on it going forward...

    i am hoping for 14-17#'s boost. i'm seeing 2-3# more boost in the hat just while cruising around??
    i still need to get my data logger system installed completely, for AFR, fuel pressure, O2, etc...
    i still need to get my msd boost master wired in and recheck the timing also.

    UPDATE 11-21-2021 this was from an email i sent to the company that rebuilt my blower.

    I finally got the supercharger reinstalled and drove 1/2 mile for fuel.
    Then It started making bad noises

    Pulled it back to the house and removed the air filter
    The bolt and spacer securing the impeller had fallen off and fell out of the filter
    The bolt did not have any red Loctite on the 6-8 threads that were holding it together
    Also the outer blades of the new impeller were dinged up.

    I put the bolt back in with Loctite and tightened it down;
    When I started the engine the bad noises were gone,
    however I'm not sure what/if other items were damaged from the impeller bolt falling out during while running.

    What should I do or check at this point??
    ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    update 11-23-2021 this was the reply from the supercharger rebuilder:
    Nothing we can do after 90 days ! [it was close to 100days]

    You need to check the unit out Immediately after you get it back ! [i surely did not think that i would have to more than bolt it back on correctly]

    Of course we use loctite on every single impeller bolt or nut! [I've been a safety inspector for years - there was old red loctite on the unused threads - just not on the threads where it was needed]

    It's just a "he said / she said" situation at this point.

    While unfortunate, a few dings will not change the performance at all.

    We have seen some with even small tips of blades broken off,
    and didn't change the boost at all, so you're mostly likely good to go .

    update: 12-5-2021
    i was real disappointed with the sequence of events, and the supercharger rebuilders reply.

    but i did start it back up and took it out for a cruise, drove about 25miles without getting on it.
    i did notice more [2-3psi] boost pressure in the hat than i had previously, i was seeing 6+psi @ 60mph.
    it was showing 14hg of vacuum on my gauge connected to the intake, at the same time.

    i did not have anymore issues, the engine coolant temp barely hit 165* the trans oil temp was the same 165*

    the whine of the supercharger is different than stock now, i don't know if that is a positive or not yet:blackalien:
    onto electronics installation before doing some test hits...

    update 12=23=2022
    was working on the car and got the boost timing master box mounted and that took way longer than i had planed.
    started getting dark so i stopped, and picked up the tools
    took the car for a short ride to warm it up before parking it.
    after it got to 160* i stopped on the road for a hit off of idle
    engine responded instantly, boost gage snapped past 10-12#,
    the new exhaust makes the car sound very aggressive under boost.
    traction did not hold the power and tires smoked instantly;:eek:
    i tried to hit it several more times, got the same results.
    got more work to do before the track season opener in March 2022 :blackalien:

    I do not know how much damage the nut did to the impeller, but the first thought that popped into my mind is "out of balance." If you stick your fingers between the blades, can you feel dust in between them and the housing? Does the housing feel smooth? Maybe the shaft is so thick and the bearing so massive will not let the impeller move too much?

    Now for some venting:
    1. The turbo in my car, caveman *I* rebuilt in 2005. On my kitchen counter. I did not use loctite (not claiming it was the smartest thing I have done); I torqued it to specs and slapped it back. Nut is still there happy. It is not the first turbo I rebuilt and none of them ever lost a nut. If I can do it, I would expect a shop claiming to be experts in the subject can also do it.
    2. They dropped the ball and should own it. IMHO, the bare minimum "be a man" reply should have been "it is out of warranty, but how about if we split it up? You pay for a new compressor wheel and we eat the rest of the repair cost (labor, and any other part that needs to be replaced just in case."

    i've put a few hundred miles on the car since then and this was chalked up to another learning opportunity:vomit:

    How did those miles work out, good or bad?

  19. vinces427bb Staff Member

    they have worked out good;
    however i've discovered that it has old valve springs on the engine that i need to update now...
