Strongest Stock Block Of Any Make

Who makes the strongest block as far as holding the most horse power if you boosted it? Not some uncommon low production block, but something a big car company makes in decent numbers?

hate to say it but it might just be the GM LSX bowtie blocks, this seems to fit the answer for your query...o_O

i suspect that the modular fords especially the newer 302 units are rated awful high on the list also...:D

There's most total horsepower, then there's most horsepower per displacement. Some of those Supra blocks are supporting 700 HP from 2.0L.

I've seen both LS and Coyote blocks pushing out 1750 - 2000 HP, but no one tells you everything they've done to support that power.

You did not specify years of production of said block?

In an open question such as your the unlimited category answer has already proven to be the 392 early Chrystler Hemi as shown by countless Nitro engines of the past.

As for modern engines, the obvious answer is the little 4 cam Ford Coyote engine with numerous twin turbo versions pushing 2,500 HP with stock block, crank, and rods.

The time slips tell the tale! :)

But I suspect you may have already known the answer too your question... ;)

Sorry Vince and Ken but 2,500 horsepower beats out both the HP per displacement of a 700 HP 2.o and anything GM has turned out! :)

I guess it depends on what you consider fitting into his stipulation of common. Does the short run Chrysler/Imperial engine count?

I've never heard of a stock rods, pistons and crank Coyote putting 2000+ HP. I'd be interest in seeing how they managed to accomplish it.

Sorry I didn't give more info. I mean something I can get easily, at least without spending a fortune. I want to try my hand at taking my time to build a really nice engine then I'll figure out what to put it in.

I NEVER said stock Pistons! Just block, crank, and rods!

How much is a Fortune to you?? What is your budget for the entire build??

I haven't seen one with a stock block, crank and rods do that much. I'm not saying it hasn't been done, just saying the news I've run across I haven't seen it. Would be interesting to see how they managed it, as those I've heard of at the very least didn't use stock rods, and cryo treated the crank. But I will admit I don't follow the Coyote stuff as much these days. Who is holding the Coyote HP crown these days?

But those articles are about 5.4 and 4.6 blocks, not the 5.0L Coyote.

Well, I guess you busted me Ken, but those mod motors are all the same to me anyhow!

Still, he is putting out 2,500 horsepower no matter what the displacement is, and now he is into the 5s in the quarter mile with a billet crank / factory block!

Whichever engine it is, it sure is good to see a younger generation of hobbyists survived through the abomination of the ricer era. I sure am glad we don't see them as often as we used to!

Speaking of mod motors.... this week I start shopping a new 5.4L build, and possibly a TVS 2.3L supercharger. :)

Roger I don't have a set budget, but if I spent more than about $12K my wife would skin my hide. So if it's $8K thats great, but it's its gotta go higher that will work.

What is it going into, Mustang, Nova etc. The engine is half of the equation. How much hp are you looking at? 12k for an engine then 3k for a tranny then 2500 for a rear... Buy someones old (2000's late 90's) Mustang. You can get a decent street car that runs in the 11's for less than 10k.

I'm kind of thinking along the same lines.... for instance if you already have something it may be cheaper to throw the money at what you already have to achieve your goal.
